The foundation of physical health is a well-balanced diet. But somehow, maintaining healthy eating habits is the most difficult for most people. Enjoying healthy meals on a budget is actually easier than it sounds, though.
Buy Simple Foods
If you’ve found a healthy recipe with an ingredients list a mile long, full of ingredients you don’t typically have stocked, this may not be the best way to stick to your budget. Instead, try making more simple meals using basic foods. Some type of meat and a vegetable on the side usually makes for a great meal and can be very affordable. For snacks, try to stick to vegetables and nuts.
Know Where Your Food Came From
As often as possible, purchase your food from your local farmers market, small grocers or directly from local farms. The fewer distributors and marketers involved in getting food from the farm to your kitchen, the lower the cost is going to be. So, this is not only a good practice for your physical health, but for your financial health as well.
Enjoy Real Food
To me, real food is something that grew on the earth, not something that was made in a lab. For optimal health, I always strive to maintain a diet of meats, vegetables, fruits, nuts and dairy. Eating simple, real foods like this is also quite affordable, making it easier to stick to my budget, too.
