Over the years, I haven’t been shy about my belief that books helped me lose 40 pounds. Obviously, I put in the work. But, focusing daily time to reading books that improved my mindset around wellness set that stage. There are so many wonderful Amazon books for a healthy mindset, and these are my favorites.

The Miracle Morning
Anyone can become a morning person with simple changes to habits and attitude.
In Hal Elrod’s book, The Miracle Morning, he describes his daily morning routine, and how it came to be.
The intention of this morning routine is to begin your day with the completion of six of the most important items that most successful people do daily. He makes the routine easy to remember by referring to the actions as your Life SAVERS:
Silence (Meditation)
Affirmations
Visualization
Exercise
Read
Scribe (Journal)
The idea is to wake up one hour earlier than you have to in order to complete your SAVERS. It may be helpful to ease into it by beginning with six minutes early, though. This allows one minute to work on each item.
The Slight Edge
As I mentioned in my overview, and several times over the years, my journey with fitness and nutrition began when I read the book, The Slight Edge, by Jeff Olson for the second time. This was when I realized that I had allowed my daily habits to work against me.
In this awesome Amazon book for a healthy mindset, Mr. Olson says, “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.”
This is when I realized that what I was doing was producing negative results. Continuing to do the same thing day in and day out wasn’t going to solve anything.
I’d learned that my daily habits were building my life. So, I needed to be sure my habits were supportive of the life I wanted to live.
You Are a Badass
“The sooner you decide to write yourself a better script, the sooner you get to live a more awesome life.”
Jen Sincero
Ever have one of those days where you just don’t feel like you’ll ever stop spinning your wheels as you try to progress toward greatness? You are a Badass by Jen Sincero should be on your list of books to read. Seriously. Even if you’ve read it before.
It’s a book that always gives me a kick in the butt to work on what’s important.
As if the motivational nuggets all throughout the book weren’t enough, each chapter ends with a list of actionable steps you can start putting into place to manifest your best life possible.
This is why I get so much out of this book every time I read it. There’s too much to digest and take action on in just one read.
Healthy is the New Skinny
How many times do you tell yourself that hurtful things like “I am fat” or “I am ugly,” every. Single. Day? If it’s once or more, you need to stop what you’re doing. You’ll want to read Healthy is the New Skinny, by Katie H. Willcox right this second.
In Part One, the author, Katie, who is a model, and also owner of Natural Modeling Agency, explains the way the modeling industry works.
She explains how models are selected and why models in only very specific sizes are selected. Most disturbingly, she reveals how the advertising industry uses models to make women believe their product will make them better than they already are.
She goes on to share many of her own personal stories, and stories of women she knows who have been through the journey to self-confidence and overall health. Then, she continues to share the tools that she has found along the way to start this journey and how to share it with others.
Get a PhD in YOU
In Get a PhD in You, by Julie Reisler, there are Q&A sections, pages to journal about what you just read, and activities to get up and complete as you work your way through the book. So, instead of reading through the full book, then deciding where to take action first, you are taking action while you read.
Julie is the type of woman who I strive to be. I feel like, by writing Get a PhD in You, she has handed me the manual to make it happen!
What I love about the way that Julie writes is her pure honesty. Throughout the book, she shares personal stories about her own struggles. Her struggles were primarily with food and her weight, divorce and feelings of inadequacy.
Each story is shared in such a way that even if you have never experienced what she is discussing, it relates completely to something else that you may have been through.
Sexy by Nature
Sexy by Nature: The Whole Foods Solution to Radiant Health, Life-Long Sex Appeal, and Soaring Confidence is a book written by female health expert Stefani Ruper. Stefani became the expert she is by researching and advocating for her own health while dealing with a multitude of issues through her teens and her twenties.
I found this book when I began listening to the podcast, Well-Fed Women, which Stefani co-hosts with her friend, Noelle Tarr. Here, I learned that Stefani suffered from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) without much relief for years. Her book really dives deep into that journey and her discovery of natural ways to work with her body to heal it.
Coincidentally, I began listening to the podcast while I was going through the diagnosis process of suspected PCOS. I decided to buy and read Sexy by Nature, because even if it turned out I didn’t have PCOS (which I don’t, by the way), some of the solutions outlined in the book may help me to get relief from my symptoms.
All in all, this is an excellent book that helps to explain the complicated world of women’s health and how to properly care for your body.
Coconuts and Kettlebells
Finally, Coconuts and Kettlebells: A Personalized 4-Week Food and Fitness Plan for Long-Term Health, Happiness, and Freedom is a partnership between Stefani Ruper and Noelle Tarr, co-hosts of the Well-Fed Women podcast.
This book is full of everything you need to know to eat your way to better health. They describe in detail why you should actually be eating a minimum of 2,000 calories a day and focusing more on the quality of your food than the quantity. The book also includes a huge selection of yummy recipes (I actually just keep the book in my kitchen since I cook from it on the regular) and 30-minute beginner, intermediate and advanced fitness plans. All of the workouts in the book can be done anywhere with minimal equipment necessary.
