A couple of years ago, I had this really great idea for a series of articles that stayed just that . . . an idea. I had this beautiful thought to share some insight into the health and wellness journeys of some of the women who inspire wellness in my life.
Well, I’ve been thinking more and more about it, and I decided it was finally time.
The best part?
All my ladies were in, too! I sent a questionnaire to 12 incredible women in my life, and the first to send it back was my friend, Julie.
I was lucky enough to become acquainted with Julie through my 9-5 while she was coaching our company’s onsite Weight Watcher’s program. She’s one of those people who you just can’t help but connect instantly with. Her vibrant personality and passion for helping others are the first traits you notice about her.
So, of course I was thrilled when she agreed to help me out with this project.
Julie is the coach we all need in our lives.
A Holistic Experience
When asked what “health” means to her, Julie said, “Health to me is a holistic experience of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness.”
She encompasses this completely in the way she lives her life, by attending weekly yoga, pilates, yoga-pilates fusion, and spin group classes at the Y; abhorring diets and choosing instead to gently track her daily food choices and utilize portion control to maintain a healthy weight; and listening to her body to honor its needs.
Inspiration from Other Women
While Julie’s work involves spending so much time motivating and inspiring others to be their best selves, she draws her own inspiration from the stories and experiences of other women her age, and those a generation older. She enjoys learning from others about what she can do to support optimal health.
One of the reasons that Julie does so enjoy her conversations with other women and learning about other perspectives is because she is all about continuous learning and growth. She believes that all of the choices she’s made in life (for better or for worse) have been learning experiences, and she wouldn’t change a thing.
Attention to All Dimensions
Finally, she told me that she’s learned that a healthy lifestyle must include attention to all of the dimensions of health – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
I couldn’t agree more.
